I can't vouch for this news source, but the quotes contained in the article made me feel like I needed to speak about it. Republican Representative Peter King of New York, said about Colin Kaepernick, "the issue he's raising is a totally phony one," and Kaepernick "never contributed anything to a constructive debate".
It should be clear by now to any non-bigot that the way that African Americans are treated in our society is a problem. So Rep. King's quote speaks for itself. To say that Kaepernick has "never contributed anything to a constructive debate", when that's all that's been talked about in the media for the last week or two, is nothing but hyperbole. And right now, hyperbole is not the way forward. It's clear that Rep. King feels attacked by Kaepernick's stance on this issue and is using his position to try to bully him into submission. This is not an appropriate action for a "representative", in my opinion. I hope the people of New York will hear that Rep. King doesn't represent all the people of New York and will take action in the next election. That would be appropriate.
